Background of the Study
Student engagement in learning is often a challenge for educational institutions, with traditional methods sometimes failing to capture students' interest and encourage active participation. Gamification, the use of game-like elements in non-game contexts, has emerged as an effective tool to enhance engagement and motivation in educational settings. By incorporating AI, gamified learning platforms can be personalized to suit individual students' learning styles, progress, and preferences, making the learning process more interactive and enjoyable.

At Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State, AI-based gamified learning platforms could revolutionize how students engage with academic content. These platforms can provide real-time feedback, adapt to students' skill levels, and present learning materials in an engaging, game-like format. This study aims to explore the impact of AI-powered gamification on student learning outcomes, engagement, and satisfaction.

Statement of the Problem
Despite the growing recognition of the benefits of gamified learning, many educational institutions, including Kaduna Polytechnic, still rely heavily on traditional teaching methods that may not fully engage students. This lack of engagement can negatively affect learning outcomes and students' overall academic performance. This study investigates the potential of AI-based gamified learning platforms to enhance student engagement and improve learning outcomes at Kaduna Polytechnic.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To design and implement an AI-based gamified learning platform for students at Kaduna Polytechnic.
  2. To assess the impact of the AI-based platform on student learning outcomes, engagement, and satisfaction.
  3. To identify the challenges and benefits of integrating AI-based gamified learning platforms in Nigerian polytechnics.

Research Questions

  1. How effective is the AI-based gamified learning platform in improving student learning outcomes at Kaduna Polytechnic?
  2. What impact does the AI-based gamified platform have on student engagement and motivation?
  3. What challenges and opportunities arise from the integration of AI-based gamified learning platforms in Nigerian polytechnics?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Students using the AI-based gamified learning platform perform better academically than those using traditional learning methods.
  2. The use of AI-based gamified learning platforms increases student engagement and motivation compared to traditional methods.
  3. The implementation of AI-based gamified learning faces challenges such as technological limitations, content adaptation, and user acceptance.

Significance of the Study
This study will contribute to improving student engagement and learning outcomes at Kaduna Polytechnic by introducing an AI-powered gamified learning platform. The findings will also be valuable for other educational institutions in Nigeria seeking to integrate AI and gamification into their teaching methods.

Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study will focus on the design, implementation, and evaluation of an AI-based gamified learning platform at Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna State. The research will be limited to undergraduate students and specific courses within the polytechnic.
